Migrate WordPress to Micro CMS

Use this guide for a normal WordPress site. You can migrate in stages and review the destination before completing the final cutover.

Before you start

Back up both sites. Keep the existing WordPress site available until you have checked the migrated Micro CMS site. Make sure Micro CMS Background Jobs are running before starting a large Media import.

1. Prepare WordPress

Update the source site, resolve obvious WordPress errors and remove content you definitely do not want to carry forward. Decide which Pages are real editorial content and which are only old application or theme shells.

2. Set up Migration Bridge

Install Micro CMS Migration Bridge on the source WordPress site, create a short-lived migration token and copy it when shown. The Bridge is temporary and should be removed after cutover.

3. Connect WordPress Importer

In Micro CMS, open WordPress Importer and enter the normal public WordPress site address and the temporary Bridge token. Import as draft unless you have a specific reason to match the source publication state immediately.

4. Analyse and review

Run source analysis, then filter the discovered items by type. Review Pages, Posts, Media, Categories, Tags, Navigation and any other supported items before including them. Use Preview for important content before committing it.

5. Import in sensible stages

Large sites are easier to check when moved in stages. Import a reviewed group, verify it, then analyse again for the next group when required. Keep WordPress available while you compare the result.

6. Final checks and cutover

Check important public routes, Media, Navigation, forms and search. Run Site Health and Diagnostics. When the destination is ready, complete the domain or route cutover, revoke the Migration Bridge token and remove the Bridge plugin from WordPress.
